Week 35: The Hardest Thing About Making a Change

Welcome to Week 35: The Hardest Thing About Making a Change

The biggest concern we hear from agents who want to join our brokerage is the feeling of anxiety and the emotional turmoil involved with telling their current broker or manager that they are leaving.

There is nothing harder than telling someone you are moving on – regardless of how good a business decision you know it is. Even if you are angry at or disappointed in the company you are leaving, the act of resigning can be stressful.

I wish we could take away the stress entirely, but that is not possible. Here are some ideas that may make the transition less of an ordeal.

We suggest that you write a formal resignation letter and ask for a one-on-one meeting with your manager or broker. There is no reason to get too deeply into the details at this point and chances are your manager already senses something is amiss.

It goes without saying that you want to keep this encounter on a professional level. Keep in mind you owe it to yourself and your future to make a clean break so stay strong. Finally, get excited about this new chapter in your life. Change is good!

Ready to make a change? Give us a shout – we want to talk to you too.
